Do you know how to waltz? Our preschoolers do!
During Spirit Week, the K4 class entertained lower school students by waltzing down the hallway. As part of the “Dress Up Day” theme, Mrs. Vlas taught her class a waltz which they demonstrated with skill and joy. Whether it is Spirit Week, The 100th Day of School, Penguin Day, or just an average week, Mrs. Vlas engages our K4 students by incorporating activities that excite them while fostering learning.
Mrs. Vlas came to Salem Baptist Christian School this summer after reconnecting with one of her former students who works in the lower school office. Mrs. Vlas said that joining the Salem family has not only blessed her but also her daughter’s family since her grandchildren are now attending!
Our K4 preschool class is a kindergarten readiness program, and Mrs. Vlas’s 34 years in education gives her the experience and wisdom to prepare our students for success. Mrs. Vlas's time as both a kindergarten teacher and an assistant preschool director gives her special insight into how to help our students grow like Jesus grew. Our Luke 2:52 model offers opportunities for students to grow in wisdom, in stature, in favor with God, and in favor with man. In the K4 preschool class, students learn letter and number recognition, patterns, positioning words, get physical with music and movement, and hone social skills such as taking turns and cooperating with others. Most importantly, our preschoolers learn about God, His amazing creation, and His love for them. Mrs. Vlas said, “What I love about teaching is seeing the growth in these little ones. They come into my class a little scared, a little shy, and then they blossom! They learn their letters, numbers, they can count to 100, they can read, and best of all they learn about our Amazing God! I love to see their little faces when they accomplish a task they thought they could not do.”
“This class has been so good at being kind and getting along with one another. I give all the glory to God and His Word. We learned this verse and made it our theme, Eph. 4:32, ‘Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God For Christ's sake has forgiven you.’ I thank the Lord for the opportunity to serve him here at SBCS!”
